The deeds of politicians are merely symptoms of a bigger problem.
That’s what I told a friend who forwarded one of those alarmist e-mails detailing the threat presumably posed by a notorious politician.
It doesn’t matter what his name is or what he did. It’s all theater.
Any time I hear somebody complain that we’re going to lose America, I’m reminded of a scene from the TV series “Amerika” which aired way back in 1987.
The series portrayed how people would live after being taken over by the Soviet Union. It was astonishingly prophetic and more relevant than ever, even though the players have changed.

In the scene I’m thinking of, the man installed as president is in a discussion about the status of the country with one of the head Russians.
The Russian tells him, “You lost your country a long time ago.”
As cynical as it sounds, that statement applies to us today. The sooner we realize it, the better off we’ll be because we won’t be reacting defensively to everything that happens.
That’s not to say what’s happening isn’t disturbing. But, at the risk of doling out an oversimplified, pat answer, God is still in control. He has a bigger picture in mind.
As for us as individuals, are we walking with the Lord as we should? We’re in this mess because so many of us haven’t been doing so in recent generations.
