Do You Only Believe?

Acts 16:31 says,

And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

Psalm 37:4-5 says,

Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

In Desiring God, by John Piper, he makes a point I wholeheartedly agree with. He says lots of people say they believe in Jesus Christ. But do they delight in the Lord? Do they treasure Him?

How many people sitting in the pews in mainline denominational churches say they believe in Jesus?

One of the things that really gets under my skin is that so many people have been inoculated with Christianity. They’ve been to church and Sunday school for years and don’t know the Bible or who Christ is. He’s something to believe factually, but He’s not truly their savior.

So for you and me to say we believe in Jesus isn’t enough. Is He your savior? Has He saved you from your sins? Has He saved you from the penalty of eternal death? Will you enjoy eternal life with God one day? Are you confident you’re born again?

Even more than that, can you delight in the Lord as mentioned in Psalm 37:4? This isn’t some super spiritual state you have to work hard to attain.

Ask yourself a few simple questions. Are you thankful the Lord is with you always? Are you glad He’s there when no one else is? Can you rejoice in talking to Him in a way you can talk to no one else?

Of course, you have to believe in Jesus Christ before you can delight in the Lord. But do you only believe in facts about Him? Or do you truly believe on Him as in Acts 16:31?

Is Jesus Christ truly your savior? If so, then you have every reason to delight in the Lord. Treasure Him this day and every day going forward.
