Why We Can’t Crack the God Puzzle on Our Own

Are you’re mystified by the actions of God? There’s a good reason for not being able to crack “the God puzzle.”.

First Corinthians 2:11 says,

For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

We understand the ways of man because we’re human beings. We have the spirit of man within us. That doesn’t mean we always understand one another. But the chances of knowing what other people are about are far greater than knowing God’s ways and what He is about.

The only way we can have an inkling of who God is comes when we have the Spirit of God within us. The Scripture passage mentioned above is meant for believers–followers of Christ–and continues this way:

12. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

The Apostle Paul believed his teachings were prompted by the Holy Spirit and could only be understood by those who also had the Holy Spirit within.

13. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

When we have the Holy Spirit within, we see things from a perspective others don’t have. Unbelievers simply cannot grasp the ways of followers of Christ.

14. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
15. But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.

Unbelievers don’t have a say in how believers are judged. God is our ultimate judge.

The last verse tells those of us who are believers that we have an unfathomable resource at our disposal–if we will only tap into it.

16. For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

For more light on this notion of the mind of Christ, allow me to share just three other brief passages and a thought on each one.

It’s necessary to bathe our thoughts with God’s word. The more time we spend in it, the more we will think about it or meditate on it.

Hebrews 4:12 tells us how God’s word interacts with us.

12. For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Paul gave this description of God’s word and its purpose to Timothy in 2 Timothy 3:16-17.

16. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17. That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

We need the Holy Spirit to help us understand the Scriptures. He works in us all the more when we make God’s word an integral part of our lives.

John tells us in 1 John 2:26-27 that the Holy Spirit guides us into truth and keeps us from error.

26. These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you.
27. But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
