For those who may not be aware, an EMP is an electromagnetic pulse. It might come from the sun in the form of a giant solar flare (to keep this simple), or it might come from a nuclear blast high in the atmosphere.
Many fictional books, TV shows and movies have made the outcome of an EMP the centerpiece of their stories. The threat of an EMP was the subject of a number of discussions I had when I did DestinySurvival Radio, the podcast associated with the now defunct DestinySurvival.com.
What strikes fear in the hearts of many is the possible repeat of the Carrinton Event, a giant solar storm in 1859, which damaged telegraph llines, among other things. What dire consequences would such an event cause today, now that we’re practically married to our various electronic devices?
Opinions differ considerably. But one of my DestinySurvival Radio guests said we won’t know the extent of what an EMP will do until it happens.
A YouTube video I saw some time back suggested the Carrinton Event didn’t happen as we’ve been told. The presenter essentially said it’s fake news. Unfortunately, I don’t have a link to share so you can watch for yourself.
However, here’s a link I do want to share with you. It’s to an article by Daisy Luther entitled, EMP: An Elaborate Hoax or a Legitimate Threat?
Daisy does an excellent job researching both sides of the question she raises. I highly recommend you read what she has compiled. Then draw your own conclusions.
Incidentally, I’ve interviewed Daisy twice about a couple of her books. She’s a credible source for guidance on preparedness.
The bottom line? Be informed, and don’t be afraid. Then take what steps you can to be prepared for disruption to life as we know it. And if nothing happens, you have no cause for regret.
